District 118 News
12/16/14 Information concerning Lockdown at Matthews Middle School - Hello this is Dr. Coles, Superintendent of Schools for Wauconda CUSD 118. This is an important message concerning the lockdown that occurred at Matthews Middle School at 9:45 a.m. this morning. The lockdown was initiated because a student found a bullet on the hallway floor during student passing period. The student immediately gave it to a teacher who then immediately reported the situation to the building administration. Building administration called for a lockdown and notified Island Lake Police. A comprehensive investigation occurred utilizing both first responders and school administration to try and ascertain the origins of the bullet as well as to determine the level of any threat. The investigation included a locker-by-locker search, a comprehensive review of security camera footage as well as other necessary investigatory actions. At 12:20 p.m. it was determined that students and staff could proceed with their school day. School counselors have been made available to assist students should they require support. Please know that we take school safety very seriously in District 118 and the incident that occurred today will be part of an ongoing police investigation. Thank you.
Hola soy el Dr. Coles, superintendente de las escuelas de Wauconda CUSD 118. Este es un mensaje importante sobre el encierre que ocurrió en la Matthews Middle School esta mañana a las 9:45 am. El cierre se inició debido que un estudiante se encuentro una bala en el suelo del pasillo durante la llegada de los estudiantes. El estudiante inmediatamente le dio la bala a un maestro que luego informó inmediatamente la situación a la administración del edificio. La administración del edificio pidió un encierre y notificaron a la Policía de Island Lake. Una investigación completa ocurrió utilizando dos primeros respondedores y administración de la escuela para tratar de determinar el origen de la bala, así como para determinar el nivel de amenaza. La investigación incluyó una búsqueda en los casilleros, la revisión exhaustiva de filmación de las cámaras de seguridad, así como otras medidas de investigación necesarias. A las 12:20 p.m. se determinó que los estudiantes y el personal podrían proceder con su horario escolar.
