Activities & Clubs
Art Club: Students who participate in Art Club will learn to work with many different types of art mediums. Sponsor - Mrs. Christians
Book Club: In-the-Middle is the D118 Middle School Book Club. We meet after school once a month. See the library website for more information. Sponsor - Ms. Richmond
Club Comunidad: Students who participate in Club Comunidad will learn about other cultures and help teach teachers some words in other languages. Have fun mural painting and celebrating Dia de Los Muertos and other holidays. Meets every other Tuesday after school. Sponsors- Mrs. Rywleski and Mrs. Slattery
Musical: Actors: Auditions for acting and performing for a play or musical start in November. Performance is scheduled in early March. Tech Crew: Students will design and create sets for the musical and also work with lights and sound. Sponsor- Mrs. Gregory
National Junior Honor Society: Students are invited to join based on the NJHS standards of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. Students volunteer in the school and community. Sponsor - Ms. Medic CLICK HERE for the service hour form.
To become a member a student must:
Be in the second semester of 7th grade or in 8th grade.
Have been in attendance at Wauconda Middle School for 1 semester.
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above.
For 7th grade students this includes 6th grade cumulative GPA and the first semester of 7th grade cumulative GPA.
For 8th grade students this includes 6th grade cumulative GPA, 7th grade cumulative GPA and the first semester of 8th grade
Not have more than 1 office referral for the year they are being considered for membership.
Fill out an application that includes: a Student Activity form and a Service Information form.
The faculty council selects each new member after reviewing information about candidates. Students inducted last year are automatically members this year.
Members meet quarterly after school. Every quarter students must individually volunteer for at least 1 service activity, record the service on a verification sheet, and hand it in by the end of the 9 weeks. Students must complete a minimum total of 15 hours of service each year, with 10 hours due by the end of the 2nd quarter. Students must volunteer for at least 1 service activity at Wauconda Middle School, and will need to locate areas in the community they can independently complete their requirement. Students must continue to display outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship.
Newspaper Club - The newspaper keeps the middle school community up to speed in a fun, but yet informative, way. Read the current issue of our totally student created newspaper on the main page of the WMS website. Sponsors - Ms. Mule and Ms. Guerentz
Scholastic Bowl: This traveling team competes in matches of knowledge in all subject areas. Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth graders with strong academic backgrounds and a love of trivia are encouraged to join. Competitors answer trivia questions in a race against other schools. STEM Club: Open to students to explore the variety of activities and applications that can be found with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Sponsor- Ms. Cleven
Strategist Club: The Strategists' Club includes playing games that involve strategy, such as card games, board games, strategy war games, and role-playing games. Sponsors - Mr. Iuorio & Mr. Beverley
Student Council: Students interested in this organization sponsor school dances, fundraisers, and other all-school activities. Interested students are elected by their fellow classmates and serve one-year terms. Sponsors - Ms. Davis & Ms. Goodman
