Superintendent Search

Dear District 118 Community,

Finding our next leader is one of the most important responsibilities of the Board of Education. Our schools, from our caring elementaries and welcoming middle schools to our vibrant 1,350-student high school, deserve a dedicated leader who will serve our students, staff, and families well.

Having restored District 118 to a stable budget, we are focused on the future and committed to rebuilding trust across our community. To help us find the right fit, the Board has hired Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), an experienced school leadership firm based in Arlington Heights.

We Need Your Voice

Beginning in August, we will ask parents, staff, and community members to share what qualities matter most in our next superintendent. We plan to select our new leader by Winter Break, with a start date of July 1, 2027.

Below is the finalized timeline for the entirety of this process:

• August 7, 2026: Our Superintendent search page posting is advertised and promoted by HYA; Superintendent search webpage is launched on District 118 website

• August 4 through September 17, 2026: Interview and Focus Group meetings are held

• September 8-21, 2026: Online Community Survey is open

• October 15, 2026: Leadership Profile Report is presented to the Board of Education

• October 30, 2026: Application Deadline

• November 5, 2026: Interview workshop & final stages of search; Candidate slate presented to Board

• Week of November 8, 2026: Initial interviews with Board; Board identifies semi-finalist candidates

• Week of November 15, 2026: Semi-finalist interviews with Board; Board identifies preferred candidate

• Early December 2026: Target for public announcement of selection

• July 1, 2027: Superintendent assumes responsibilities

Throughout this transition, Dr. Brian Wegley and Dr. Todd Leden will continue to serve as Interim Co-Superintendents through June 30, 2027. We thank them for providing strong, steady leadership during this process.
